Max Filippini pushes cattle into a new grazing area in Battle Mountain, NV on Monday, June 15, 2015. This land allotment was off limits because of the 2013 drought restriction but has now been reopened in a new settlement with the local BLM. The Filippini family are high desert Nevada ranchers who have had to limit cattle grazing due to 2013 restrictions. Officials claim the new rules are necessary to protect the land in a drought but they see it as an end to their multigenerational way of life. Since, the Filippini's have whittled their herd from 1,200 to 800 cattle. They claim, the remaining animals, have nothing to eat, and on June 2 they turned out cattle on a restricted allotment, in defiance of the rules.
